Why is the Water in My Toilet Bowl Low?

Most homeowners ignore the toilet until something goes wrong. A toilet is one of the essential features of a home. It is a plumbing fixture used frequently in every house, and some components of a toilet can develop issues over time due to malfunction or wear. One of the most common problems that plumbers fix is the low water level in the toilet bowl.

If you are experiencing the issue, it is essential to find the possible causes behind it. Here are some of the common reasons behind the low water levels in the toilet bowl:

Damaged or broken fill tube

The fill tube is a black or clear small, flexible plastic hose that controls the water level. It connects to the overflow tube within the toilet tank. Any issue with the fill tube will shut the water off before the tank is filled adequately after the toilet is flushed. To fix it, remove the tank lid to visually inspect the fill tube for issues. If it has unclipped from the overflow tube, clip it back, or if it is damaged, call a plumber to replace it.

Float ball

Float balls are the usual suspect behind the low water levels in the tank bowl. It stops the inflow of water after it reaches the right height. Check the tank to see if the float ball is lying too low. Slightly bend the float arm upwards to adjust its position, which will allow more water into the bowl.

Low water pressure

It is a possibility that all the parts of the toilet are working fine, and the issue might be due to the low water pressure in the home. If you suspect low water pressure, check the other water sources for water pressure. If the issue lies only with the toilet bowl, it may be due to old, cracked, or leaking toilet pipes. Schedule an appointment with a plumbing professional to check and fix the reason behind the low water pressure.

A Leak in the bowl

A cracked bowl can slowly leak and lose water, affecting the water level in the toilet bowl. A crack can also be dangerous as the water can seep and damage the bathroom floors. If not repaired in time, the cracks can widen and lead to severe plumbing issues.

Damaged fill valve

A misplaced or damaged fill valve also affects the water level in the bowl. It is located on the left side. Adjust it by using a screwdriver to turn the screw clockwise, which will allow more water to flow in the tank. Flush the water once or twice to check to see if it's working. Hard water can break or damage the fill valve. If you see a broken valve, replace it with a new one.

Low water level in the toilet bowl is a problem that requires attention. If you are unable to fix the issues, call a professional plumber for help.
